Zevachim - Daf 92
  • The requirement to launder garments onto which blood of a חטאת spattered

The eleventh Perek begins: דם חטאת שנתז על הבגד – if blood of a chatas spattered on a garment

הרי זה טעון כיבוס – then this garment requires laundering. Although the passuk only discusses נאכלות – חטאות which are eaten, the law applies to פנימיות – inner חטאות (which are burned) as well, because "תורת החטאת" – the law of the chatas teaches: תורה אחת לכל החטאות – there is one law for all חטאות. Blood of an invalidated חטאת does not require כיבוס, whether it had a שעת הכושר – period of validity or not. The Gemara proceeds to exclude the blood of a חטאת העוף from the law of כיבוס and explains why פנימיות are included but עופות are excluded.

  • חטאת העוף שהכניס דמה בצוארה בפנים מהו

Rebbe Avin asked: חטאת העוף שהכניס דמה בצוארה בפנים מהו – what is the halachah for a bird chatas whose blood one brought into the היכל while it was still in its neck? He explains that (since birds have no קבלת הדם, and the blood is applied directly from its neck), צוארה ככלי שרת דמי ומיפסיל – is its neck like a service vessel, so [its blood] is invalidated by entering the היכל like blood of an animal חטאת whose blood was brought into the היכל in a כלי שרת? או דלמא כצואר בהמה – Or perhaps [the bird’s neck] is like an animal’s neck, about which we darshen that "מדמה" אמר רחמנא ולא בשרה – Hashem said “from its blood,” not “from its meat,” that its blood is not disqualified when it is brought into the היכל while inside the animal’s neck? An attempt to resolve this inquiry is deflected.

  • נשפך על הרצפה ואספה מהו

Rebbe Avin asked another question: נשפך על הרצפה ואספה מהו – if [blood] spilled from the neck of a חטאת העוף onto the floor of the עזרה and one gathered it, what is the halachah regarding sprinkling this blood? Do we say: אצרוכיה הוא דלא אצרכיה רחמנא כלי שרת – Hashem merely did not require a service vessel for the blood of a חטאת העוף, so he may gather the blood from the floor and it remains valid for הזאה? או דלמא מיפסל פסל ביה רחמנא כלי שרת – Or perhaps Hashem disqualified using a service vessel for [the blood of a חטאת העוף], and instead required applying its blood directly from its neck, in which case blood which spilled onto the עזרה floor would be disqualified? Rava suggested a proof from a Baraisa which excludes the blood of a חטאת העוף from the law of כיבוס. Now, if the blood of a חטאת העוף is disqualified in a כלי שרת, then as soon as it enters the garment’s airspace it is disqualified for זריקה, and disqualified blood never requires כיבוס!? Rav Huna brei d’Rav Yehoshua answered: במדביק כלי בצוארה – a passuk is necessary where he connects the [garment] to [the bird’s] neck, and its blood never entered the garment’s airspace before staining the garment and was not disqualified

Siman – Turtle (צב). The Kohen with the turtle shaped stain on his begged from the blood of a chatas who was on his way to launder it, got distracted as he noticed a turtle carrying a חטאת העוף into the Heichal with the blood still in its neck like a כלי שרת, and didn’t see that he was going to bump into a Kohen crouching down and gathering blood from the floor that had spilled from the neck of another חטאת העוף.
