Source that bris milah is docheh Shabbos – אות, ברית ודורות

The Gemara seeks the source that bris milah is docheh Shabbos. The Gemara rejects three separate gezeirah shavehs connecting bris milah to Shabbos through the words, אות, ברית, ודורות individually, since each one appears by other mitzvos as well. The Gemara then brings Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak who says that since only bris milah and Shabbos share all three words, we can learn a gezeirah shaveh that milah overrides Shabbos.

Second source that bris milah is docheh Shabbos – וביום השמיני

Rebbe Yochanan brings an alternative source that bris milah is docheh Shabbos. The passuk states, וביום השמיני ימול בשר ערלתו – And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. The words, ביום השמיני –on the eighth day, implies that the mitzvah of milah should be performed on the eighth day, even if the eighth day is Shabbos.

Source that bris milah is docheh tzaraas

The Gemara states that the mitzvah of milah overrides the tzarass prohibition of cutting off any whitish spot that indicates tzaraas on the skin. Meaning, if one had a nega tzaraas on the place of the milah, the milah is still performed.

The Gemara seeks the source for this halacha and brings a Baraisa that states, ימול בשר ערלתו – the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. The extra word בשר, teaches that even though a baheres spot, which is a type of tzaraas, is on the orlah, it should be cut off. The passuk, השמר בנגע צרעת – take heed concerning the affliction of tzaraas, which is the source for not cutting off a negah, applies in all other situations besides for bris milah .

Siman – Club. The passwords to get into the clubhouse were os, bris and doros whenever the eighth day milah occurred on a Shabbos for a metzorah. Key Words – אות, ברית, דורות, - ביום השמיני - צרעת
